My name is Kate, I’m a Birth Keeper.
I’m also a mother to two turbo girls, a good cook and a crossword wizard. I have birthed in a hospital and at home, and followed the pregnancies of countless friends and clients. I support women and their families on their journeys to a powerful birth and postpartum, outside of the conventional medical system.
I work with women birthing at home, with or without a Private Midwife.
I no longer attend births in hospital.

What does a Birth Keeper do?
A Birth Keeper is a support person who is an expert in natural birth, who knows the maternity system and how to avoid it intimately, and who is passionate about helping birthing women navigate the highs and lows of pregnancy. They work for the family who hires them during pregnancy to plan and physically support the birth and postpartum.
During the birth a Birth Keeper will provide physical and mental support for the couple, present from labour until the babe is earthside. Holding space and optimising physiology are my key responsibilities; I am outwardly passive, but always watching, listening and energetically tuning into the labouring and birthing mother.
After the birth a Birth Keeper will impart an abundance of support, both emotional and practical. Respecting the process of normal birth of the placenta, supporting babe in their first breaths and supporting the mother in the immediate postpartum are just as valued and prepared for as the emergence of the babe.
Respecting postpartum for both the baby and the mother, sleeping arrangements, breastfeeding, baby wearing & the birthing mothers’ recovery are the focus of the relationship after birth, and I will be available until 6 months postpartum for text support as needed.

As a Birth Keeper, I value your story, your intuition, goals & wishes above all else.
Pregnancy and birth are highly intuitive and spiritual experiences that deserve deep connection, admiration and respect. It is my honour to offer embodied service and hold space for women as they powerfully step into matrescence.
My experience as a birth witness in hospitals and at women’s homes has embedded me with a deep trust in women and babies and their capability, and a healthy scepticism for the medical maternity system. I don’t believe that pregnancy and birth are inherently medical events and I don’t believe that women need to outsource their power or bodily autonomy.
If you are looking for an experienced woman to support you in radical responsibility, someone who truly understands the meaning of serving women, a doula who has a balance of practical and holistic knowledge - I’d love to have a chat with you to see how I can be of service.

I believe in YOU!
I believe in a women’s right and innate ability to birth naturally and safely, without feeling fear, trauma or shame.
I believe your body is incredible and clever, not dangerous and mysterious.
I believe in the powerful and meaningful connection between women in the birthing space and and that through genuine support we can create a soft landing place for the journey into motherhood.
I believe in physiology, intuition and deep inner knowing.
I believe that you and your baby will work harmoniously together throughout this beautiful rite of passage.
